Cocoon Art Space
Subtractive Space

| 2015-01-16

When architecture is discussed, mostly, the focus lies on the term of space. The architect's profession is about creating space. The subtraction from a monolithic block exposes this space. Space is the result of a subtraction, the negative of the positive. Therefore, subtraction creates space. "How does the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein have to be designed if it is to use subtractive design methods to create a dramatic relationship between a monolithic structure and its complex interior?" What new qualities would be created? How do people behave in this room? Could irritation create tension? This project deals with the relationship between positive and negative space and their relationship to one another.
