A devastated Landscape
| 2019-06-14
This master thesis is a speculative design proposal for an ecological „proving ground“ which treats a landscape devastated by lignite mining through a combination of benign neglect and machine intervention. It is situated in South Welzow, in the Lausitz, a cross-border region in Germany and in Poland to the south of Berlin. Based on the final report of the coal commission which describes the damage to the area and potential future scenarios in detail, this project has been designed to act as a geopolitical catalyst which treats and connects nature, politics and industry in its development.
